Yohannes Assers has a lifelong passion for soccer, having played three years of varsity soccer and earning All-State First Team honors by the end of his senior year. He also sharpened his technical skills through three years of competitive futsal and two seasons with Bethesda Academy, where he competed at a high level and continued to grow as a player.
After high school, Yohannes joined the CCBC Essex men’s soccer team. During his time there, he helped lead the team to a regional championship in his first year and a national tournament appearance in his second. He later transferred to the University of Maryland, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, successfully balancing academics with his commitment to the game.
Continuing his soccer journey, Yohannes competed with the Starliners in the Washington Premier League (WPL), where he played a key role in their championship-winning season. He then spent two seasons with Rockville, a semi-pro team in the UPSL, further building his competitive experience. Yohannes currently plays for the Montgomery Soccer Incorporated (MSI) semi-pro team, maintaining his passion for the game at a high level.
Yohannes’s goal is to inspire and motivate players of all skill levels while providing consistent support and guidance throughout their development. His commitment extends beyond the soccer field—he strives to help each player grow in confidence, discipline, and character. Yohannes believes the lessons learned through the game can shape young athletes into strong, resilient individuals both on and off the pitch. His coaching approach centers on building an uplifting, focused, and team-oriented environment where every player feels valued, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
